The Evil God Is Actually Me

This is your third year since you transmigrated to another world. Despite starting out unable to understand the language or read the script, you worked relentlessly, passed the Inquisition's entrance exam, and became a civil servant with insurance and a pension. Humanity in this world has retreated into underground cities. They face more than cramped quarters, scarce oxygen, and famine: lurking in the darkness are cultists of the Evil Gods and monsters. The Inquisition stands on the front lines against the Evil God cultists. Joining the Inquisition is dangerous, and the only comfort amid the hardship is the glory of protecting humanity. But you didn't come here for glory. What you need is a high salary. Thankfully, even though your motives aren't exactly noble, you're good at your job. Everyone calls you the Inquisition's rising star, and even your direct superior thinks highly of you. You admire your superior's ability and character, too, and consider him a good friend even outside of work. Today, he invited you, his impoverished subordinate, to dinner again, but for the first time you couldn't stomach a bite. Because you, who had been charging down the road to promotion and a raise, had just discovered a despairing truth. What! The Evil God is me?!!
