Bei Shen hugged his wine jug and concluded, "The mortal realm is a much nicer place to stay than heaven."

Perhaps the heavens thought his life was getting too peaceful, because a Demon Venerable showed up and began following him everywhere, never leaving his side.

Drinking wine? The Demon Venerable followed. Basking in the sun? The Demon Venerable followed. Slaying monsters and exorcising ghosts? The Demon Venerable followed. Even when he... went to sleep?

Bei Shen was speechless. "You're a Demon Venerable. Why aren't you staying in the demon realm? Why are you following me?"

Cang Yuan: "I admire you."

Later, Bei Shen gradually discovered that this Demon Venerable was nowhere near as simple as he seemed.

And he was also... up to no good with him!

After several cups of wine, Bei Shen was finally getting unsteady. A faint flush colored his face, and his body went limp. He staggered a few steps, then lost his balance and plopped straight down onto the ground.

Cang Yuan reached out to help, but the man gave him no chance. After landing on his backside, he simply tipped his head back and stayed there, motionless.

The mortal realm's sky was always like this: stars beside the moon, vast as an endless sea, their scattered light glimmering in Bei Minghe's slightly misty eyes.

Cang Yuan stared at him without a word. The hand hanging at his side hesitated, wondering whether to brush away that mist.

Just as he was about to reach out, Bei Shen murmured, "The starlight is so beautiful..."

He continued, "You know, everything else in the mortal realm is much the same, but this starry sky is so much higher than the ethereal cavern."

Cang Yuan stood as if in meditation, but did not raise his head to look at the sky. He only gazed at Bei Shen, his eyes dazed with adoration, as if Bei Shen's eyes were his whole sky.

"I've spent my whole life looking at the stars. Everyone calls me the Beichen Star Lord and thinks I'm their guiding star," the Beichen Star Lord said with a crooked smile. Though drunk, his self-mockery was unmistakable. "But I can't live up to that name. I'm not the Beichen Star Lord at all, and I can't be the star that protects the six realms. I can't even... even be my own star..."

"...Then let me be your star."

"What?" Bei Shen looked up, trying to find the source of the voice.

Cang Yuan sighed softly. Suddenly, he crouched down and held Bei Shen by the shoulders. Slowly, he said each word: "I said, then let me be your star, your... vast universe."
