One day, the two people from the rumors finally meet.

Chen Yan replies coolly, "My name is Chen Yan. Yan, as in a flame burning out."

Xu Jiaqing nods to show she understands.

The next day, Xu Jiaqing introduces him to a friend: "My betrothed? His name is Chen Ran, Ran as in a flame burning out."

Chen Yan, buying water at the little shop next door: "..."

What the hell, do you have the memory of a goldfish? And you're supposed to be first in your class.

Just before graduation, Chen Yan asks Xu Jiaqing on the rooftop:

"Why did you go to so much trouble to get close to me back then?"

Was it love at first sight?

"I thought you knew. I was broke back then, so I figured you were a rich idiot. If I got close to you and became friends, you'd buy more of my homework. That's how I could make money, right?"

The first thing he said was, "Your name is Xu Jiaqing? Your dad's surname is Xu and your mom's surname is Qing?"
