The handsome young master of the Li family said, "The Gao family may be rich, but they can't help my career," and broke off the engagement.
The good-for-nothing young master of the Zhu family next door said, "Master Gao insists on foisting his wild daughter on me. He's just passing the blame, and it's completely dishonorable."
To protect her older sister's good name, she was forced to admit that she was involved with a man. The mysterious stranger said, "If I make you unmarriageable, then I'll marry you."
Since she couldn't get married anyway, she might as well... make do.
And so the mysterious stranger became her husband... in reserve.
