I Was Forced to Develop Multiple Personalities

Hiromitsu Morofushi got a System when he was seven. The System was very kind to him. It chatted with him, cheered him up, told him bedtime stories, and helped chase away his nightmares.

The System needed to collect emotions as energy to keep running, though. So, to keep his System big sister from going into standby and sleeping because of low energy, the sensible Hiromitsu started making trouble.

By day, he was kind to his classmates, respectful to his teachers, and earned affection points: +1, +1. In secret, he dealt heavy blows to bullies and arrogant delinquents, earning fright points: +1, +1. But after collecting all those points, the progress bar had barely moved.

Hiromitsu was stumped. Luckily, he met a colleague, a seasoned expert.

The expert tossed his beautiful silver hair, leaving Hiromitsu with a proud silhouette and a piece of professional advice: “The emotions of background characters are nothing but scraps. The feelings of the main characters are what really matter.”

As little Hiromitsu pondered those words, he ran into someone who shone like gold. Golden hair as bright as the sun, wheat-colored skin, and a golden label over his head. The moment he appeared, he beat up the underlings surrounding Hiromitsu and gave him 50 emotion points.

Overjoyed and dizzy from gaining so much energy at once for the first time, Hiromitsu thought: “Wow, the senior was right. This guy's a big fat sheep!”

Hiromitsu was happy to befriend a main character. Later, they entered the Police Academy and met three more fellow cadets with white labels. He had even more fun reaping the harvest. But after graduation, he went undercover in an international organization, where he encountered many important characters, and even ran into the expert who had pointed him in the right direction.

Hiromitsu: “Senior, you... you didn't have to go that far...”

The expert lit a cigarette. “You have to understand, one of our missions is to maintain the plot, so there's no running away.”
