He thought he was the young master of a wealthy family, living in luxury, even if his family members acted strangely, burning incense and bowing every day before a red cabinet the size of a palm.

But his peaceful life was full of unsettling oddities:

But after a while, life turned out surprisingly well. The monster went from force-feeding him with its tentacles to learning recipes and cooking for him. It stuck to him every day, and loved cuddling with him.

To escape the fate of being controlled by the tentacle monster, Gu Gu fought to survive. When running away didn't work, he tried giving in:

He let it touch and hold him, ate its food and drank its water, and even put on talent shows now and then, drawing, singing, and dancing. He rose from emergency rations to a pet that could be taken outside, making it easier to run away at any moment.

Who could have guessed that his drawings would be hidden away as a contract, his songs mistaken for love poems, and his dancing... Who dances a mating dance? Tentacle monster, get a grip!

DAY 1:

I brought my trembling little mate home. He's so thin and fragile. I need to take good care of him.

I heard humans need time to adjust after being brought home. I want to go in and see him, but he looks so scared.

The human vocal system is complicated. After three days of studying, I only learned his name, but my little mate is clever. He understood me. I'm happy.
