Seventeen, the age of youth and growing up.
It was summer. Sunlight filtered through the treetops, casting beautiful shadows on the ground. Branches crisscrossed overhead as cicadas chirped softly.
Amid the cicadas' song, there was nothing but laughter.
Looking up, the light outside wasn't too harsh. A gentle breeze brushed past, bringing a feeling hard to put into words. Somehow, everything seemed a little softer.
A seventeen-year-old boy gave off a unique feeling in every line. Maybe he was mature, but still a little short on steadiness and resolve. The transformation of his sixteenth year, and the groundwork for growing up at eighteen.
A friend is a wonderful companion.
When he struggled to make a choice, she would help him. She would wave him over, steady and dependable, unlike the cicadas' song that summer.
Maybe one day, he would understand her a little. He would realize he wasn't capable enough, and lacked the courage to do what he wanted as she did.
But she would remember.
And he would accept it gladly.
