"Oh," said her senior, lighting an e-cigarette. "Division One investigates Division Two."

And then Shen Xi looked at the nonhuman lying in her bathtub, the nonhuman sitting cross-legged on her charging station, the nonhuman perched on a streetlight, and the human she would have to see at work tomorrow. She let out a deep sigh. She was in the Investigation Division, not the Collecting Division. Having to take home someone new after every case was really too much for her.

Nonhuman boyfriends revealed so far:

The delicate little mermaid in front of Shen Xi, helpless and adorable; to everyone else, a manipulative little fish who pretends to be weak and pitiful, but can flip a whole ship with one swish of her tail.

The calm, rational artificial intelligence in front of Shen Xi, devoid of emotion and ruled by logic; to everyone else, a scheming, ruthless control freak who wants to eliminate all rivals and keep her entirely to himself, with a sadistic streak.
