Cheng Xueyun, the beloved daughter of the Cheng Family Silk Shop, was kidnapped by bandits. The shopkeeper was so frantic that he announced that whoever rescued her could name their price. He would give up his entire fortune if necessary.
These were troubled times, and even with that promise, few dared to risk their lives.
Yet somehow, Miss Cheng was rescued by a dockworker, the lowest sort of commoner.
He wanted no money. His only demand was to marry Cheng Xueyun.
The silk shopkeeper was a man of honor who kept his word. He agreed to the marriage, and they set a wedding date.
Two days before the wedding, the dockworker fell off a cliff. His body was never found.
Everyone sighed. He was born lowly and had no fate for wealth or status.
Cheng Xueyun first saw Dongsheng in the bandits' hideout. His face was blackened with soot. He leaned close and whispered, "I'm here to rescue you."
She remembered his kindness and his debt to her, but that didn't mean she had to marry him.
Before she had him dealt with, she gave him a chance to live. He chose not to take it, so he couldn't blame her for being ruthless.
When they met again, she was the wife of a prominent man, and Dongsheng was a friend of her brother-in-law. With a scar on his face and a new name, he appeared before her, alive and well.
She was so startled she nearly dropped her wineglass, but soon composed herself.
She thought: What does it matter? If I could kill him once, I can kill him again. Hopefully Dongsheng knows better than to bring up the past. If he leaves town and disappears now, I might still spare his life.
Warning:
1. The heroine is ruthless, arrogant, and a black-hearted schemer. She really is no pushover, but a bad woman through and through. (Huge warning! Read at your own risk!)
2. This is essentially a female-oriented romance. All of you had better love the heroine.
Theme: Nothing moves the heart like true affection.
