The orphan Jiang Yu was sent to the capital. He thought he was going there to study, but in truth, he was being sent to the imperial mausoleum to serve as a study companion to Wen Qingliu, the deposed crown prince.
According to the stories, the deposed crown prince was spoiled, picky, and mean. Jiang Yu feared that a slip of the tongue would cost him his head, and dreaded spending every day pouring tea and waiting on someone else.
But when he arrived at the mausoleum, he discovered that the deposed crown prince was actually an exceptionally handsome man. Jiang Yu was dazzled the first time he saw him. Nor did he have to wait on him. Life at the mausoleum meant drinking tea, reading, exercising, and chatting with the crown prince every day.
He even had a cat, an adorable little thing that loved to act cute. Jiang Yu soon realized that the crown prince was rather like a cat, too. He liked basking in the sun, and Jiang Yu always imagined there was a long tail swishing behind him.
Two kindred souls are drawn together by fate and come to depend on each other. Falling in love is only a matter of time.
Years later, at the wedding of the newly enthroned emperor, his beloved asked him, "When did you fall in love with me?"
The new emperor put an arm around his beloved and thought for a moment. "For me and Xiao Yu, it was love at first sight, of course."
Fifteen-year-old Wen Qingliu was young and full of spirit, yet a little downcast. Then one day, at the gate of the imperial mausoleum, he met a pair of beautiful eyes, bright and innocent. The crown prince, who had spent so long in the darkness, fell for them and never found his way back out.
They had both been unfortunate, but they were also both lucky: they met the person destined for them at an early age.
The author prefers everyday stories. This is both love at first sight and a slow, steady romance.
