Everyone found it strange that Li Jinqiu and Du Fanyi, who were always at each other’s throats, had suddenly stopped arguing.
Not only had they stopped arguing, but Young Master Du had become clingy. Whatever Li Jinqiu did, he had to get involved.
Every day, he would waylay her and put on a solemn air. “Li Jinqiu, you have to meet me today, too.”
Li Jinqiu had no idea what had gotten into Du Fanyi.
But she would always remember what he said to her on graduation day: “Get lost.”
“Don’t ever see me again.”
-
Li Jinqiu saw Du Fanyi again on a summer night when she was thirty, looking utterly disheveled.
Du Fanyi spoke in his usual teasing tone. “Li Jinqiu, how did you end up like this?”
Then he picked her up and took her home.
“Why has the chatterbox gone quiet?”
Du Fanyi frowned at the silent woman before him.
“Fine, I’ll do the talking.”
-
The Du Fanyi Li Jinqiu first met had the whole world and its galaxy revolving around him.
She fell for him, and after that, she could never pull herself away.
When she saw Du Fanyi again, Jinqiu had to admit that from the past to the present, he had always had the upper hand. He trailed just behind her, neither too close nor too far, with that familiar desire for control. “Li Jinqiu, you have to meet me today, too.”
Du Fanyi firmly lived by the belief that “nothing is impossible.” Whatever he wanted to do, he was sure to succeed.
But when it came to winning Jinqiu over, he seemed unable to figure out the trick, from childhood to adulthood.
“Li Jinqiu, why are you avoiding me?”
