An easygoing, flirtatious senior inspector top x a haughty, sharp-tongued, jealous barrister bottom
Wei Zhi has been popular with girls since childhood, except for one person.
That person is her childhood friend, Ji Jun.
No matter what she did, her friend remained lukewarm toward her.
Ji Jun was Wei Zhi's whole youth. Wei Zhi gave up her entire youth for her, but never managed to get a step closer.
That night, Ji Jun was drunk. Reeking of alcohol, she came to Wei Zhi and said,
"I like you."
At that moment, Wei Zhi desperately wanted it to be true, but the stinging smell of alcohol filled her nostrils. So, as always, she answered carelessly, "I like you too, Ji Jun. Who are you playing Truth or Dare with to go this far?"
It was just like the ten years they'd spent together.
But the next day, Ji Jun disappeared from her life without a trace.
What Wei Zhi didn't know was that she had been Ji Jun's whole youth, too.
Beneath that overpowering smell of alcohol was the first and only time Ji Jun had ever revealed her true feelings.
== A plot-focused, serious synopsis ==
In Hong Kong, there are two kinds of people who handle "family matters":
One is the police, like senior inspector Wei Zhi of the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, or CAIU.
The other is a barrister, like Ji Jun, a practicing barrister in Central.
"My job is to make sure every child receives the protection they deserve! No matter what it takes!", Senior Inspector Wei Zhi
"Until the court finds him guilty, he is innocent. That's my job.", Barrister Ji Jun
They were classmates at the same girls' school, from primary school through secondary school. Wei Zhi was always the umbrella sheltering Ji Jun. Whether Ji Jun was being mocked as a "cold snob" or facing someone's malicious advances, Wei Zhi always protected her. But Wei Zhi wasn't a protector just for her. Everyone liked Wei Zhi, while Ji Jun was always described as "that straight-A bookworm who reads in the corner." After graduating from secondary school, Ji Jun received an offer to study law at Oxford University. It was another achievement that fulfilled her mother's expectations, as well as the escape she had been planning for a long time. On the eve of her departure from Hong Kong, spurred on by alcohol, she finally gathered the courage to tell Wei Zhi, "I like you."
Wei Zhi was used to being her hero. In that moment, she chose the most familiar and most wrong way to respond. She joked and patted Ji Jun on the head. "Ji Jun, who are you playing Truth or Dare with to go this far? I like you too."
That joke crushed Ji Jun's last hope. She thought even Wei Zhi saw her feelings as a joke. The next day, she flew to England without looking back and cut off all contact.
Fifteen years later, Senior Inspector Wei Zhi glared at the suspect who had abused her own daughter in a cold interview room at the West Kowloon Police Station. As they reached an impasse, the door opened. The suspect's defense lawyer stepped in, dressed in a perfectly tailored suit and showing no emotion. She introduced herself:
"I'm Ji Jun, the barrister representing the client."
