A Couch Potato, a Nobody, and the Mother of Monsters

In 2035, two major events changed the world. First, a seven-day, seven-night polar night descended, and the world was contaminated. The contaminated went on a murderous rampage, bringing humanity to the brink of extinction.

Second, a blood moon suddenly appeared in the sky, driving away the polar night. Some survivors discovered that a moon-shaped mark had appeared on their bodies. Touching it summoned a System and let them use supernatural abilities. People called it the Blood Moon Ability System. From then on, humanity had the power to fight back.

Three hundred years later, Ye Jiang woke up on a day when a blood moon appeared. She awakened the Blood Moon System and gained an ability:

Sewing Kit: Can mend any tattered clothes until they're good as new.

Ordinary, forgettable, and maybe a bit useless.

Ye Jiang: "..."

Later, people discovered that while everyone else had a subsidiary System, she had the mother System.

She was the mother of monsters, and the source of humanity's supernatural powers.

Coming Soon: Me, Plain and Ordinary, an Honest Office Drone

Blurb: Who can go to work without going crazy? After graduating and spending two years as an office drone, Su Xu finally snapped.

On a packed subway, she imagined that the person sitting beside her was an ugly, eight-legged octopus making faces at her.

At the office, she saw a polite and pleasant new colleague walking in expensive shoes, leaving a trail of mud that was nearly flooding the whole company.

Her handsome young boss was growing more and more white bone thorns on his back each day.

Hallucinations were everywhere, seriously affecting her quality of life. She couldn't take it anymore, so she finally acted.

She beat the octopus to a pulp, stuffed her boss in a sack and trimmed his unruly thorns, and was preparing to chop off her colleague's feet when the Paranormal Control Bureau showed up.

The Bureau explained that the world had a condition called Soul Misalignment Syndrome. When someone's outward appearance and soul were drastically at odds, severe misalignment caused the soul to gradually detach from the body and manifest as a mutation invisible to ordinary people, wreaking havoc on the surroundings.

For half a month, something strange had been happening on Subway Line 3, and young women had been disappearing every day. Recently, the line had suddenly returned to normal, and the culprit, a respectable-looking college student, had started sobbing and confessing everything.

An entire wealthy family had been growing weaker day by day for no apparent reason. Recently, they had suddenly recovered, and their live-in son-in-law had confessed of his own accord that he'd wanted to harm his wife's family and inherit their wealth.

The Paranormal Control Bureau said the student's soul had mutated into an octopus, and the wealthy family's son-in-law had grown blood-sucking thorns. But when they confessed, the mutations disappeared.

Su Xu: .

Oh.

She hadn't gone crazy after all. That was her first thought, and she felt greatly relieved. Then she noticed the way the Bureau's people were looking at her.

The Paranormal Control Bureau: "Ms. Su, you..."

In the Bureau's eyes, an abyss followed behind Su Xu: empty, hollow, and bottomless.

Su Xu: ?

Why were they looking at her?

She was just an ordinary, honest office drone, exactly the same inside and out. Her career was only going a little badly, so every now and then she'd get an irrational hunger.

A hunger for something strange.

She hadn't chopped off her new colleague's feet yet. She wanted to eat them.
