Withered Wood Meets Spring is a novel full of love, hatred, and vengeance. Its main story is a melodramatic tale of people who love and hurt one another, with the protagonists acting as each other's matchmakers.
A dim-witted, straightforward mountain god gong (Ye Zhiqiu) x a proud, hot-tempered wandering swordsman shou (Zhu Zhen)
Ye Zhiqiu is a good-for-nothing high school student. By chance, he comes across a battered old book, enters an ancient fantasy world, and becomes a mountain god revered by the people.
But Ye Zhiqiu doesn't appreciate his good fortune. He only wants to return to his original world, so he makes a deal with the old book: to get back, he must find certain people and complete specific missions by transmigrating into a book.
Zhu Zhen is a wandering swordsman whose younger sister is afflicted with a strange illness. He's been searching for a renowned physician to help her, and happens to meet Ye Zhiqiu. The two agree to complete the book-transmigration missions together.
Insects tricking people into marriage, a city lord coming back from the dead, a puppet's burial, sect rivalries, an underwater forest... Every day brings a new fright. Faced with such strange situations, these two oddballs come up with equally unconventional solutions.
“Come, sword!” Zhu Zhen stabbed through the book.
“I don't want to transmigrate into this damn book for another day!” Ye Zhiqiu pulled out a Black Eagle arrow and pierced the spine, lunging at it to tear it to pieces. But the old book, desperate to save itself, sent them to an unknown world, trapping them in an endless loop.
Early Ye Zhiqiu: “I'm not into men! Aaaaaah! Stay away from me! Back, back, back!”
Early Zhu Zhen: “Ye Zhiqiu, aren't you disgusting?”
Even a couple of blockheads get to be the protagonists sometimes.
Zhu Zhen transmigrated into a puppet.
Ye Zhiqiu: “Little puppet, are we friends now?”
Puppet Zhu Zhen: “No.”
Ye Zhiqiu: “Oh. Little puppet, your nose is so long.”
An unreliable old book and a pair of partners with no chemistry.
The plot is plain and simple: no brains, no intelligence, no logic. A triple-no product.
The characters aren't perfect.
The romance moves quickly.
Their story is short, but their love lasts long.
