[When They First Met]
One early summer
Zhou Yang first met Song Zhizi when he was eight.
The girl was crouched under a gardenia tree by the roadside, lost in thought. Her eyes were slightly red from crying, and tears welled in them.
"What's your name?" He walked over and asked.
The girl looked up at him. Their eyes met. "My name is Song Zhizi."
"Why are you crying here?" he asked, puzzled.
At his words, the tears in the girl's eyes spilled over. Like beads on a broken string, they wouldn't stop falling. She remained silent.
"Your name is Song Zhizi?"
The girl nodded.
"My mom says gardenias symbolize strength and courage. Zhizi, don't cry anymore."
[When They Parted]
One early summer, a year later
Zhou Yang held her, his eyes slightly red.
The girl smiled and said, "Zhouzhou, gardenias don't only symbolize strength and courage."
They also symbolize eternal love and promises.
