Tihua is a princess of the Song Kingdom.
The Song Kingdom falls, and Tihua's parents disappear without a trace.
The new emperor wants to marry Tihua.
But consumed by hatred for her country's conquerors and the loss of her family, Tihua flees the palace.
When soldiers chase her to the end of her escape, she encounters Xu Que, a great general of the new dynasty.
Xu Que has won illustrious military honors and was also responsible for dealing with Tihua's parents.
Tihua has no choice but to pretend to be Xu Que's old hometown friend and invent a nonexistent betrothal between them.
She plans to get close to Xu Que and find out what happened to her parents.
Before Xu Que's father was exiled by Emperor Li of the former Song dynasty,
Xu Que was fortunate enough to see the most noble princess once.
Many years have passed, but the princess still has her lovely, hibiscus-like face and has hardly changed.
Except now she is being chased by soldiers and is in a sorry state,
even throwing herself in front of his galloping horse and claiming to be his old hometown friend, betrothed to him.
Xu Que had no intention of saving Tihua, but the beauty's feigned meekness and helplessness stirred his heart.
After Xu Que gradually tricks Tihua into his bedchamber, the new emperor comes to the general's residence to look for his former future empress.
At last, Tihua lets her spoiled, imperious side show.
Xu Que can only play along:
