Like a Play

[Republican-era romance, sweet]

"Cotton flowers are also called hero flowers. Hero flowers should be given to heroes, and you are a hero." - Shen Jifan

*

The wedding announcement of Ruan Qingrong, the once-famous female martial opera performer, and Shen Jifan, the young master of the Shen family, took over the newspaper headlines.

At their wedding, the venue was decorated not with roses, but with bright red cotton flowers everywhere.

Looking at the many guests below the stage, she said, "I've performed on stage for half my life. I've acted out love's joys and sorrows and sung of life's twists and turns, but I never realized that my own love was a play, too."

A play that began with meeting when they were still unknown, and reunited when they had both made a name for themselves.

A beautiful play.
