I Recruit for the Underworld

Tong Meng was born with an extraordinary affinity for spirits. Even rampaging evil spirits were willing to chat with him for a while. The most beloved junior disciple in his sect, he didn't go down the mountain to train for the first time until he was an adult. Then, halfway there, he received an appointment letter from the Underworld. The letter ended with a line in large print: The Underworld is hiring. No work in the world of the living. Only then did Tong Meng learn that his natural affinity for spirits had made him the Underworld's chief recruiter. Tong Meng: So what am I supposed to recruit? Underworld Liaison: The gifted talents the Underworld urgently needs! Tong Meng: You mean someone who studies political strategy, or someone who writes poetry? Underworld Liaison: Obviously, we need people doing scientific research. Tong Meng: Your Underworld does scientific research now??? Tong Meng took the letter down to report for duty, only to find that the Underworld had changed beyond recognition. Electric lights now shone along the always-dark Yellow Springs Road. The perpetually congested Naihe Bridge had been fitted with fully automated ticket gates. Meng Po's little soup stall had expanded into a grand restaurant, where smart robots served soup from start to finish. Most terrifying of all, he saw a living person waiting in line at the head of Naihe Bridge! Had the Underworld developed a service for booking reincarnation in advance?! Lei Ze: That's right. I'm the one waiting in line at the bridge. One-on-one romance, happy ending, only each other, in body and heart. Theme: Everyone is born with a talent that can be put to use.
