In the thirty-third year of the Liuyuan era, the Fuchang Dam, vital to the livelihood of millions, burst. The emperor was furious. Suspecting that someone had secretly sabotaged the dam and embezzled funds during its construction, he ordered the Minister of Justice to investigate thoroughly. But the minister paid lip service to the order. He did nothing about the soaring price of rice or the crumbling dam, and focused solely on driving the refugees who had arrived in the capital back out.
Ling Qiange, daughter of the Deputy Minister of Justice, sensed that something was wrong. Together with her twin sister, Ling Qianyue, and her fiance, Gan Luxian, she headed south to three cities and one prefecture to investigate. Little did she know that the case would lead to a massive conspiracy to usurp the throne, twenty-two years in the making.
On the road, Ling Qiange encountered all kinds of people: thieves, beggars, and a poor young woman who had sold herself into servitude at a young age before killing a wealthy landlord...
See how Ling Qiange solves each problem and finds love and friendship along the way.
