Synopsis
A seemingly sweet but secretly ruthless heroine x a troublemaking, obsessive male lead
Rekindled romance / bittersweet push and pull / aloof beauty becomes the other woman for love / cheating man faces a reckoning
1. Ruan Xing was the least remarkable member of a wealthy family in the capital. Timid and obedient, she let everyone walk all over her. The boldest thing she ever did was brave a storm to pray for a marriage of her own.
Everyone in their circle thought Ruan Xing was hopelessly in love with Xu Jinci. Even after their engagement, when women constantly flocked around him and one even brazenly taunted her, she kept enduring it and backing down.
Lu Yanzhou was born into the most powerful family in the capital and stood at the very center of its elite circle. Arrogant and uninhibited, he drew every eye wherever he went.
Their personalities were worlds apart. Almost no one would ever have connected the two of them.
Years later, they met again. By the swimming pool at a private club, Ruan Xing heard her friend tease Lu Yanzhou through the lush trees.
“You’re so nervous just because I said I liked her. Could it be that you’re interested in her?”
He lowered his eyes and gave a scornful laugh, his profile indifferent and weary in the cold light.
“I’m not that pathetic. I have no interest in someone else’s fiancee.”
Ruan Xing silently walked away, stamping out the secret spark of her unrequited love before it could set her heart ablaze.
When they met again in Washington, Ruan Xing finished a call with her fiance, then turned to the man beside her.
The curtains were half open. The wind lifted her skirt and wrapped it gently around his trouser leg.
Lu Yanzhou fixed her with a scorching gaze. His voice was low. “Go on, seduce me.”
Ruan Xing had just started to speak when he pinned her against the wall and kissed her hard and deep.
“So you succeeded.”
2. Ruan Xing thought that the two years she and Lu Yanzhou spent in Washington had been a mutually understood fling.
When the time was up, they parted ways. Ruan Xing returned home to prepare for her wedding, and Lu Yanzhou drove her to the airport without giving it much thought.
At a party one time, a group of friends played a card-passing-kiss game. When it was Ruan Xing and Xu Jinci’s turn, the card slipped, and their lips brushed. Across from them, the man casually flicked away his cigarette ash, his profile distant and indifferent.
After several rounds of drinks, Ruan Xing came out of the restroom and was abruptly pulled into a room. The door locked behind them. Lu Yanzhou pinned her against the cold door.
His eyes were dark as he shattered the tears at the corners of her eyes again and again with fierce, relentless thrusts.
“So you want to marry him? Try it. Every time you do, I’ll destroy it.”
Ruan Xing had cut Lu Yanzhou off five times. If there were a sixth, he had no doubt that the moment she beckoned, he would come crawling back like a dog.
3. Xu Jinci had always thought his fiancee dull and boring. Accustomed to a carefree, debauched life, he simply couldn’t find any interest in such a tedious woman.
In the fourth year of their engagement, Ruan Xing went overseas to study. As she was about to leave, Xu Jinci looked at the gentle woman before him and said, with words whose sincerity was hard to judge, “Let’s spend another two years living our own lives. When you come back, we’ll get married.”
He said they could each do as they pleased, but Xu Jinci knew Ruan Xing wouldn’t do anything outrageous.
Until one day, he discovered that during those two years in Washington, she had been entangled day and night with his sworn enemy.
The panic he had buried for so long could no longer be restrained. Forcing himself to sound cold, he said, “Cut off contact with him. I can pretend nothing happened. We’ll get our marriage license this afternoon, and I’ll take you seriously from now on.”
She smiled, her features clear and gentle, but her words were merciless. “Xu Jinci, don’t you understand? I’ve been using you from the very beginning.”
