That same year, a rift appeared at the edge of the universe. Creatures from beyond this universe slaughtered a third of the planets across the stars.
Under immense pressure, the interstellar worlds formed a united front to hold back the creatures' assault.
A cannon-fodder System, newly hired and stuck starting at the lowest rung, fished its very first Host out of the cracks between worlds.
