[Western Fantasy] After Being Sacrificed to the Abyssal Beast

Millie Wilbert became a sacrifice to the monsters of the Abyss. Clutching the Encyclopedia of the Varta Continent that had grown up with her, she was sent down the underground river and banished into the Abyss.

But she didn't want to die for nothing.

The frail girl sat in front of a cave, waiting for fate to arrive. The heavy footsteps of a monster drew closer and closer. Trembling, she took the dagger she'd hidden between the pages of her book and turned around, gathering all her courage.

The pain she'd imagined never came.

In the shadow falling over her, all she saw was a gigantic, furry bear paw slowly reaching toward her. Carefully, it wiped away her tears.

Everyone knew that in the Varta Continent there was a remote Abyss, inhabited by terrifying monsters. Every fifty years, one would awaken, bringing a blood moon and disaster upon the world. Only the flesh of a beautiful young girl could satisfy it.

Later, the monster finally appeared outside the Abyss, staring in confusion at the people fleeing in every direction.

It lowered its head and looked at the girl sitting in its arms.

"It's all right. Humans are always afraid of anything that looks different from them."

Millie patted the bear's head as it drooped dejectedly, then smiled and said:

"But to me, you'll always be the cutest little bear."

It didn't answer.

It only closed its paw around her more tightly, burying her deeper in its warm fur as the crowd watched in terror.
