Lin Shao was an amateur archer. One day, an accident sent her to the late Eastern Han, where warlords were battling for supremacy. She also brought along the romance-game System, I Make Harem in the Three Kingdoms. The System was powerful, with features like saving and loading, opening a shop, and boosting stats. It had everything.
But the game had been discontinued halfway through, so Ma Chao was the only character she could pursue. And if she wanted to leave the game, she'd have to win him over.
But historically, Ma Chao was not only renowned for his "bravery on a par with Xin and Bu" and his handsome looks. He was also a man who "betrayed his father and lord, defied the Way and abandoned virtue," and was "strong but unjust, brave but unkind." Lin Shao suspected she'd be stabbed to death before she could even get close to him.
Lin Shao: ...
Lin Shao: If I'm going to die either way, I'll do it myself.

Ma Chao lost his mother when he was young. His father cared only about fighting and never showed him the slightest affection. The only time his father ever planned for his future was when he arranged a childhood betrothal between him and a girl from the Lin family.
He assumed this was just another deal made for his father's benefit, and despised Lin Shao.
Until one day, as he crossed a bridge, an arrow flew through the green willows. A girl with a bow parted the branches and came toward him, smiling as she asked if he had seen her arrow.
Ma Chao said he hadn't, against his better judgment.
But after the girl left, he pulled out the arrow he'd hidden behind his back. Two small characters were written on its tail:
"Lin Shao."

Lin Shao: "I heard you weren't happy about our childhood betrothal."
Ma Chao didn't answer directly. Instead, he buried his face against her neck. "I regret it."
Lin Shao: "What?"
Ma Chao: "That it was a childhood betrothal. I regret not meeting you sooner, not marrying you sooner..."
He sounded almost indignant. "You should have married me ages ago."
