At sixteen, Zhao Wuxu fell helplessly for Yan Dan, who had come to her village to help alleviate poverty. He was dazzling and full of youthful confidence.
Later, she fulfilled her promise to Yan Dan, only to discover that he already had someone by his side.
She quietly buried her girlish feelings deep in her heart and chose to leave his world.
-
When they met again after years apart, Yan Dan was single.
This time, Zhao Wuxu didn't back down. She summoned the courage to confess her love, but he rejected her just as she had expected.
She pressed on step by step, and at last, she won step by step.
For three years, Yan Dan treated her with tenderness and care. For a while, she even thought he might love her, at least a little.
But when she asked him outright, he fell silent.
Giving up of her own accord was the most rational choice she could make.
On the day she left, heavy snow blanketed Shencheng. She turned and walked away without looking back.
From then on, Yan Dan feared snowy days most of all.
-
Years later, Yan Dan finally found Zhao Wuxu. When he saw another man holding her hand and the happy smile on her face, all his manners and reason vanished.
He was willing to pay any price, just hoping she would change her mind.
As long as she would return to his side, he would gladly accept even her hatred.

Blurb:
Shan Yue had been by Ji Congran's side since she was eighteen. At twenty-two, she finally got her wish and became his girlfriend.
They had been together for six months, but Shan Yue often went ten days or even half a month without seeing him because he was buried in work. One night, he came home in the middle of the night, and Shan Yue keenly caught the scent of perfume on him.
The next evening, Shan Yue received a photo from Ji Congran's nephew, Jiang Shrang, showing Ji Congran embracing a woman intimately.
Along with the photo came a knock at her door. When she opened it, Jiang Shrang asked, "Will you marry me?"
-
On the day Ji Congran got engaged to the woman chosen for him, Jiang Shrang brought Shan Yue to the ceremony in their finest clothes. A striking pair of matching rings gleamed on their clasped hands.
As they congratulated the newly engaged couple, Jiang Shrang gently put an arm around Shan Yue. "Shan Yue, wish your uncle-in-law congratulations."
Suppressing the unbearable ache in her heart, Shan Yue smiled brightly. "Uncle, congratulations on your engagement."
Ji Congran's face changed when he saw the rings on their hands. His excellent self-control kept him from losing it on the spot. "Shouldn't I be wishing you two a happy marriage first?"
-
One day after the wedding, Shan Yue happened upon an old photo album. Inside was just one picture: the back of a schoolgirl in uniform. The word "Beloved" on the back of the photo stabbed at her heart. She thought of how cold and distant Jiang Shrang had been toward her since their marriage.
So Jiang Shrang didn't love her either. None of them loved her.
That very day, she packed her things and left the Jiang family home.
They met again a year and a half later, on a night of heavy snow. Snow covered Jiang Shrang as he stumbled toward her through the drifts and pulled her fiercely into his arms. His voice was muffled with tears. "You heartless woman. The person in the photo was you."

Bonus Scene
After Shan Yue and Ji Congran got together, his nephew Jiang Shrang moved into their home too. For the next six months, whenever Shan Yue and Jiang Shrang were alone together, they acted like strangers.
Ji Congran was so busy with company affairs that he spent fewer than fifteen days at home. Whenever he was about to go into Shan Yue's room during those fifteen days, Jiang Shrang always had some excuse: food poisoning and a trip to the hospital, catching a cold and worrying he might infect them, or dragging his uncle into an all-night gaming session.
When their friends heard about it, they laughed and called Jiang Shrang a master schemer.
