His superior said the bureau was too busy, so they assigned Nanchuan a female deputy detective to help with cases. The boss said it was because he didn't want Nanchuan to work too hard, but Nanchuan knew what was really going on. They were probably trying to set him up with someone again, just in a different way.
So Nanchuan deliberately kept his distance. The first thing he said when he met Ji Ning was, "I hope we work well together. Let's focus on finding the truth and nothing else."
At the time, Ji Ning only nodded. Nanchuan didn't know if she'd understood him, but he never expected the new deputy detective to be all cases, all the time. The words she said to him most often were "Mm" and "Got it."
Later on, people at the bureau often saw their boss chasing after Deputy Detective Ji. "Ji Ning, could you stop looking at cases for a bit?"
Cold-faced Ji Ning: "Then what should I look at?"
Shameless Nanchuan: "Me."
Ji Ning: "Weren't you the one who told me to focus on finding the truth and nothing else?"
Nanchuan: "We need to find the truth, and we need to find other things too."
Ji Ning: "Find what?"
Nanchuan: "A partner."
