I Don’t Play Games to Be Anyone’s Dog

Koe Fumiya recently realized that video games might have been psychologically manipulating him.

The main story hadn't advanced in eight hundred years, there were so many side quests that he could spend his whole life completing them, and the combat was so easy it was just a mechanical way to kill time. And yet, he'd logged into the game every day to do his dailies for almost two years! He was more diligent about it than he was about work!

When Koe Fumiya realized this, he decided he couldn't go on like this.

So he logged into the game and faced the old orange NPC who, just like every other day, treated him like a quest-completing machine and kept assigning him tasks. He slowly activated PvP mode, drew his sword, and fought his way from underground to the surface. He killed anyone who stood in his way, whether they were a god or a Buddha! It was ridiculously satisfying!

When his best-friend NPC stopped him at the school gate and demanded an explanation, he calmly said, "Sorry, I just realized that I didn't spend all this time grinding and paying to get where I am today just to be someone else's dog."

Gojo Satoru's impression of Zenin Fumiya: docile. No matter how unreasonable his demands were, Fumiya would hesitate for a moment, then agree. Even when the higher-ups kept piling on countless missions, restrictions, and demands, Zenin Fumiya accepted them all without complaint.

So when Gojo was urgently recalled from a mission and told that his docile classmate had suddenly gone berserk and killed nearly half the jujutsu world's higher-ups, he even suspected it was an April Fools' prank.

His former classmate was dripping with blood as he declared, "I don't want to be a dog." Just as he hadn't stopped Geto back then, this time he couldn't stop another friend either.

Geto Suguru's impression of Zenin Fumiya: not human. Whether dealing with his classmate and friend Geto, the Zenin family he considered his own, complete strangers, or even grotesquely shaped cursed spirits, Zenin Fumiya treated them all with the same calm indifference. Geto believed that what lay beneath that calm was a madness no less intense than his own.

So when the cursed spirit he'd sent to keep watch reported that his old classmate had finally dropped his disguise, Geto couldn't help laughing out loud. Zenin Fumiya, wearing blood-soaked clothes, wandered down an empty street. Geto emerged from the darkness and invited him, "What do you say, Fumiya? If you've got nowhere to go, why not come with me?"
