Lin Weizhi has a lifelong nemesis.
They were born under incompatible stars, yet were annoyingly fated to be together: they lived in the same neighborhood, were born in the same hospital, and attended the same kindergarten, elementary school, middle school...
Their mothers were the best of friends. The two of them, on the other hand, had been beating each other up since they were only a few months old, and kept at it as they grew up.
One day, after reading the books on his father's shelf, five-year-old Lin found a notebook and carefully wrote a title on the cover: The Observational Journal of the Species Known as Song Yan.
The notebook proved absolutely devastating when Song Yan was in his edgy teen phase, bragging to his underlings about how great he was.
That's because it recorded every embarrassing thing Song Yan had done since he was five.
Song Yan wasn't about to be outdone. He found a notebook of his own, titled it The Complete Collection of Lin Weizhi's Embarrassing Moments, and spent an entire weekend listing them all.
Later, when Lin Weizhi and Song Yan were ten, they happened upon a kidnapping. After being tied up and locked away, Song Yan forced himself to stay calm and comfort the frail Lin Weizhi.
By the time the two kids were rescued, Lin Weizhi had fallen asleep, leaning against Song Yan and still clutching his hand tightly.
Later still, when fifteen-year-old Lin Weizhi was cornered in an alley because he was good-looking, he calmly called someone while facing a group of menacing upperclassmen.
Three minutes later, the even more menacing Brother Song Yan charged into the alley with a gang of underlings, scaring the delinquents away.
Five years later, twenty-year-old Song Yan held Lin Weizhi in his arms and said to his underlings, "Come on, call him your big sister-in-law."
The underlings were quiet for a moment, then chorused, "Brother Lin!"
Much later, when outsiders asked about the ridiculous relationship between the two, Lin Weiyue, who was fifteen years older than her younger brother Lin Weizhi, scoffed. "They act like elementary school kids dating. How childish can you get?"
Theme: It's not childish. It's the freedom that comes from being spoiled.
