Countdown to Killing a Male Insect

(Synopsis needs work; this is just a rough draft. Tentacle horror + space + mystery + transmigrate into a book, among other elements. The details aren't settled yet.)

Huo Xun transmigrated into a book, and had the bad luck to become a disabled person... No, a disabled bug.

"Ding! Congratulations, Host, you've been bound to the Insect Escape System. Our assessment shows you have 365 days left to live. This time next year will be your last day. Find the culprit behind the scenes as soon as possible. Countdown begins."

Huo Xun: "..."

Huo Xun had been so afraid of bugs since childhood that just seeing one made his legs go weak. To survive, he had no choice but to overcome his fear. What he found even harder to accept was that, despite his disability, the "male insect Huo Xun" had remained strong in spirit and left him with a pile of romantic entanglements.

Gentle, understanding prospective female spouse number one,

Blunt, flirtatious female insect major number two,

Attentive, lovesick sub-female colleague number three,

A devoted, beautiful, possessive widower and fierce female insect number four...

They all competed to come take care of Huo Xun. The more enthusiastic they were, the unluckier he became. Gradually, his misfortunes came more and more often, and every one of them was life-threatening.

Huo Xun didn't know whom he should trust or whom he should guard against. The System's mechanical voice warned him: "Host, in this insect-murder game, you can't trust anything anyone says. One wrong move, and you'll lose your life."

"Why?"

Why were they doing this?

Huo Xun was so terrified of them that he hadn't slept a wink in two days and two nights!

The System was silent for a long while before it finally said, "Because you're the villain in the story."
