Three Lies

*Episodic stories, short pieces, flights of fancy. Enjoy!

*I’ll finish these stories whenever I get the time.

[One]

Shi Shiju thought he was a perfectly ordinary person. But one day, he got a phone call from the future.

The familiar voice on the other end, sounding just like his own, screamed that he would die in half a month.

He didn’t believe it and hung up.

A spam call, a phone scam, he thought.

Three days later, he received a note in familiar handwriting that said, “Don’t go out. Quit your job immediately.”

He compared it with his own handwriting, then casually threw the note away.

A week later. Ten days later. Half a month later.

Shi Shiju shakily dialed a number. After two rings, someone picked up.

“Hello?” he heard himself say. “You’re going to die.”

[Two]

You have a crush on your childhood friend.

You’ve just been promoted to chief prosecutor of the city, giving you access to more classified files.

You open a file and discover that the childhood friend you’ve been crushing on is one of the notorious leaders of a criminal syndicate in recent years.

And just now, he sent you a message.

“Want to meet up? I’ll treat you to dinner.”

You immediately reply, “Sure,” and rub your hands together, eager to arrest him and bring him to justice. What a joke. It’s only a crush. Even marriage wouldn’t stop you from bringing your loved one to justice. That’s a first-class merit waiting to happen.

But when you get there, you find a complete stranger smiling at you.

“Beneath the moonlight lies my unspeakable desire.”
