Xie Fengliu, the Prime Minister's Wife Wants to Remarry the Neighbor, Lao Wang

Yang Jinghui was the legitimate daughter of the prestigious Yang family. When her husband was demoted, she married him anyway. On their wedding night, he told her, “I can’t hold you back. We won’t be a real married couple.” He neglected her for twenty whole years. For the sake of their marriage, Yang Jinghui managed the household and went to great lengths to help her husband rise from a minor county magistrate to chancellor. Then she discovered that he had kept himself chaste for the love of his life, had become chancellor for her sake, and now that he had the position, planned to divorce Yang Jinghui so he could reserve the title of wife for his beloved! Everyone around her husband knew, yet they all treated his beloved like a goddess. They all thought it was an honor for Yang Jinghui to be chosen as her stand-in, and an honor to spend twenty years in a loveless marriage! She suffered her whole life, and even in death could not rest in peace. When she opened her eyes again and lived her life over, she was determined to get revenge and make them regret everything. She would make money, enjoy herself, live in splendor, find a lover, and live for herself.

The imperial decree came down: the chancellor and his wife were to separate. It was said that the deep and handsome Chancellor Zhou Huai'an would rather defy the decree and be thrown in jail than agree to the separation.

Meanwhile, the former chancellor’s wife married the neighbor, Old Wang, in a splendid second wedding.

Old Wang had spent ten years as a low-ranking, ninth-grade official in the Ministry of Justice, living in sour poverty. He was tall and handsome, with the refined fragrance of aged agarwood. Holding up his wine cup, Old Wang secretly rejoiced as he planned to rise through the ranks and grow rich: to watch certain people regret their choices, hear the whole world gossip, and dote on his wife.

This was originally meant to be a Qing Dynasty transmigration story with a female protagonist, but I suddenly had inspiration for this one. Thanks to my longtime readers for always supporting me. Mwah, I’m grateful to have you all.
