Luo Meining transmigrates into a supernatural novel as a doomed female supporting character who dies young.
She has Yin-Yang Eyes, said to be useful for making medicine and elixirs that grant people long life.
To keep herself safe, she plots to flee far away.
But she never realizes that the beautiful woman traveling with her is actually a man: the ruthless villain from the original novel, who will stop at nothing to take her eyeballs and make elixirs from them.
On their journey south, they encounter the breathtaking beauty Yi Sanshui, delicate as a willow in the wind (or so it seems). Both have been forced to become nuns against their will, and they find comfort in sharing their troubles.
People often mock the beauty for being tall and burly.
During a late-night heart-to-heart, Luo Meining takes pity on her, moves closer, and offers words of comfort.
Yi Sanshui leans against the edge of the bed, hidden in the darkness, and says nothing, lost in thought.
As they travel south,
they find empty coffins and corpses coming back to life in a village;
ghosts in the mountains helping tigers prey on people;
beautiful women on pleasure boats feeding themselves to ghosts;
and an inn that opens its doors to guests late at night...
A treasured mirror breaks demonic illusions, and spirit eyes distinguish yin from yang.
Through all their trials, the two support each other, growing as close as can be.
One night, Luo Meining wakes from a dream and sees bright eyes and red lips slowly drawing near beneath the light of an oil lamp.
Yi Sanshui reaches out and pinches the wick. The lamp goes out, and their lips meet.
Luo Meining covers her mouth in shock. "Damn, big sis, why are you kissing me?"
By a twist of fate, she catches a glimpse of Sanshui "big sis" changing clothes.
Behind the screen, "she" deftly ties up her hair and changes into a dark red official robe.
Damn it, "big sis" is actually the real villain of the book: the Ninth-Thousand-Year Lord who's after her eyeballs.
After all that, she escapes the love-triangle battlefield, only to deliver herself right to the villain's doorstep.
Luo Meining: I was wrong. Can I still take it back?
Yin Miao was taught from childhood to pursue a single goal:
to go to any lengths to recover for his father what should have belonged to him.
He once stopped at nothing to get what he wanted.
He never imagined he would give up his obsession for someone,
only for that person to become his new obsession, impossible to forget even after death.
1. A fictional folk-supernatural setting, with a mishmash of eras and locations, all invented.
2. The heroine's Yin-Yang Eyes let her see ghosts. A low-magic world with traditional cultivation, and a plot-focused story (emphasis added).
3. Slow burn. The male lead has many secret identities and even more schemes.
Theme: Cause and effect follow one another. The eyes distinguish yin from yang, comfort the living, and fulfill the wishes of the dead.
