Originally titled How to Talk Back After Being Reborn in the 1990s
Shen Mu was known far and wide as a delicate beauty. No one expected her to marry Qiao Yu from Qiao Village. Everyone said she had walked right into a den of wolves: her husband's family was poor, his father was a gambler, and his mother was unreasonable. They were all waiting to see her make a fool of herself.
Reborn, Shen Mu swore she would never be meek again. Whoever made her unhappy would get a piece of her mind. And that wasn't all: she was going to get into college and make a fortune! Seeing his wife full of ambition, Qiao Yu worried she'd kick him to the curb, so he hurried to prepare for the college entrance exams too. He even started a factory, and his business grew bigger and bigger. Every year, he bought plenty of gifts for his parents-in-law, making the whole village green with envy.
At first, when Shen Mu said she wanted to invest in stocks, Qiao Yu didn't think it was a good idea. He advised her, "That stuff is so uncertain. Your money could disappear and you'd have no idea how it happened."
Shen Mu ignored him and kept investing. Qiao Yu didn't stop her, either.
Then one day, Qiao Yu's business ran into trouble. He couldn't keep the cash flowing and was on the verge of bankruptcy. Shen Mu blinked her innocent eyes and handed him a bank card. "There's three million in here. Will that be enough?"
"Did you make it all from stocks?"
"Most of it."
Qiao Yu smiled. "I guess I was short-sighted."
*After dealing with the past-life matters early in the story, the later parts are a slower-paced, slice-of-life story about building a career...

Tang Qiaoling's mother gave her own life to secure what everyone considered a good marriage for her daughter. After her mother passed away, Tang Qiaoling took on the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings. Her father was a good-for-nothing who not only refused to work, but also drank heavily. Whenever he got drunk, he went looking for trouble, which made Tang Qiaoling loathe him. Even so, there were still women who were taken with a man like him.
Fortunately, her stepmother treated her fairly well.
Her stepmother told her that Tang Enze, the eldest son of the Tang family at the village entrance, had large earlobes and was sure to make something of himself. He would never mistreat her, so marrying him was the right choice. "Your mother really did find you a good match."
Tang Qiaoling had always been against the marriage. After all, her mother had died saving Tang Enze, and that was how the match came about. Then one of her friends was in such dire straits that her father even considered arranging a ghost marriage for her. How was that any different from selling her life for money? It was the first time Tang Qiaoling had felt afraid, but she still held on to a little hope for her father, until she saw the greedy look in his eyes as he gazed at her.
Her stepmother told her to run away at once.
But Tang Enze had already graduated from college and stayed in the big city, where he had a prestigious job. Would he still be interested in her?
In her previous life, Tang Qiaoling chose to back down. Fate played a cruel trick on her: her father still married her off to a sickly man who was close to death, just to get money for alcohol. After marrying him, she worked diligently every day, but her husband's family still beat and berated her. Her life was worse than a slave's, and she eventually died in misery after enduring their abuse and cruelty.
Reborn, Tang Qiaoling chose to go to the big city and find Tang Enze this time!
