Cicadas Must Be Silent

Yet no one knew that the two of them shared a secret hideaway.

One day after school, the cicadas were deafening. Halfway there, a sudden, hot rain poured down on her.

She hurried to the abandoned railway tracks she considered her secret hideaway, only to see the boy holding an umbrella. His fingers were long and distinct, his gaze weary, and he carried a bitter yet lingering sweetness.

He tilted the umbrella toward her, shielding her from the rain.

Their breaths mingled, and their hearts pounded.

After that, they often shared their secrets in silence, separated by a corrugated metal wall.

Yan Sijin had always known he didn't belong there.

Sure enough, he was later recommended for admission to a top university and never came back. She heard that he became ever more dazzling, winning countless admirers and praise.
