Gentle, teasing pursuer x arrogant group heir [Blurb written on 2024.2.19 and archived.]
-
Yan Yang is beautiful, quiet, and good-tempered, exactly the type older relatives adore.
When she is sent as a favor to the matchmaking banquet held for the second young master of the Xi family, Xi Mu, his mother picks her out of all the "competitors" at first sight.
But everyone who knows Xi Mucheng knows he dislikes women like her most of all. He agrees to date her only because his family pressured him.
Yan Yang thinks that's true. He was pressured into it.
The day they meet, the second young master Xi looks her over, his naturally arrogant air unmistakable. "We'll date for a year. Help me deal with my family, and I'll agree to any request you make, as long as you don't cross the line."
He emphasizes the words "cross the line," apparently afraid she might have some ulterior motive.
-
Yan Yang has no reason to refuse. After all, to outsiders, someone from her background should consider herself lucky just to be associated with the Xi family.
Yan Yang plays the perfect girlfriend: gentle, attentive, and always available. Everyone in the Xi family is pleased with her, but nobody knows she has a calendar in her heart, counting down the days.
Until the Xi family starts making wedding arrangements. Yan Yang finally can't sit still and goes to ask Xi Mucheng, "Who said we're getting married?"
"I did." The man in his seat sees nothing unusual and looks up slightly, speaking as if it were obvious. "Isn't that what you wanted?"
A cup of hot tea pours over him, cooling him from head to toe. The woman, usually so gentle, stares at him with unprecedented indifference.

Since childhood, Xi Mucheng has been surrounded by countless people trying to curry favor with him, each with their own motives. He watches their fawning with cold indifference.
He looks at Yan Yang the same way, watching her obey him in everything and flatter his family. It never occurs to him that he might become enthralled with her.
When it ends, Yan Yang makes just one request: that he settle her grandmother's medical bills.
"You don't want anything else?"
The woman responds as though discussing business. "Such as?"
He gazes deeply into her eyes, his lips parting and closing a few times before he finally lowers all his defenses and murmurs, "Me."
