Draw My Wife into My Arms

Su Jinluo was the legitimate daughter of a Duke's mansion, yet she never had enough to eat or wear and had to watch her stepmother's every expression. One day, she dreamed that she was framed and nearly lost her virtue, only to be rescued by a newly crowned top scholar. She fell in love with him at first sight. She never expected that she was nothing more than a stepping stone in his official career, and that he was even having an affair with her younger sister behind her back. When she awoke from the dream, she found herself in the very predicament she'd dreamed of. Just as the top scholar was about to rescue her, she threw herself into someone else's arms. That man was gentle as jade, a graceful young gentleman. Even in her situation, he didn't take advantage of her. She thought she'd met a good man and resolved to repay him properly one day. The Regent was a member of the royal family, yet from a young age he had fought on the battlefield, his body steeped in blood and battle. He single-handedly brought the soon-to-fall State of Zhenbei back from the brink. When the common people cheered and hailed him as a hero, he smiled and turned around to tear the emperor down with his own hands, then installed the young prince on the throne, using the emperor to command the feudal lords. Everyone paled at the news. They called the Regent a ruthless killer and no decent man, and decided they would do well to steer clear of him so they wouldn't offend the fiend. The Regent didn't care what they thought. In fact, he was happy to let them believe it. But then some clueless, sweet, soft-spoken little girl blundered into his arms and called him her kind older brother. For the first time, he felt the urge to take someone home. The capital enjoyed a long spell of peace after that. People thought the Regent had turned over a new leaf, until one day he got married and they finally understood. He hadn't changed at all. He had simply hidden a beauty away in his golden house and couldn't be bothered with them anymore. Theme: Don't trust strange men you meet by the roadside
