In the original story, the original female lead is forced to marry Fu Yansang, who already has a child. After their marriage, she abuses the stuttering child. When her husband dies, she falls for the male lead, an illegitimate son recently returned to the Fu family, and they become involved. What follows is a melodramatic, tortured love story full of all kinds of ridiculous twists.

Gu Taoyou does the opposite of what the original story expects. She acts devoted, cares for the child, and drives away the illegitimate son.

She returns to acting, refuses all attempts to pair her with co-stars for publicity, and plays an independent female lead.

On camera, tears fill her eyes:
