[Unrequited love comes true | Seven-year age gap]
Headstrong girl x Gentle male lead
When Ruan Nan was fifteen, she came back from visiting a grave and fell into a fever that wouldn't break. Liang Jilin stayed by her side all night, without sleeping.
Ruan Nan's eyes were red as she muttered deliriously, half-asleep.
Don't go. Don't go.
Why does everyone have to leave me?
She repeated those three lines countless times throughout the night.
Liang Jilin wiped away her tears, held her hand, and said firmly, "I won't. I'll always be here."
Ruan Nan thought that promise meant forever, so she hid her feelings well, always polite, considerate, and composed.
She thought that if she kept her secret hidden, nothing could go wrong.
Even though everyone around her gave examples of people who had known each other since childhood but eventually became strangers, Ruan Nan wasn't afraid. She was certain that she and Liang Jilin would be the exception.
Besides, there was the promise Liang Jilin had made.
Until an ordinary day in the bitter cold of December, when she chased him to the airport and could only watch his flight disappear into the sky. With reddened eyes, Ruan Nan locked the diary filled with his name away at the very bottom of her bookcase.
Liang Jilin had left without saying goodbye.
Their love, hidden away from the light, came to nothing. There was too much keeping them apart and too little tying them together.
Ruan Nan thought that maybe everyone else had been right.
Years later, Ruan Nan was a bridal-wear designer just beginning to make a name for herself, while Liang Jilin was the most renowned surgeon at Huaqing.
They reunited on a night of torrential rain.
The streetlamps cast a dim, yellow haze, blurring into halos of light. Few people were on the streets, and Ruan Nan was stranded in the downpour on the empty road. The damp air enveloped her, leaving her chilled to the bone.
In front of a glass storefront where she had taken shelter from the rain, a pair of slender but strong arms carefully wrapped around her waist.
Ruan Nan couldn't break free. Her eyes were red, but she stubbornly refused to speak.
Liang Jilin's voice was hoarse as he bent down to kiss away the tear at the corner of her eye and pleaded softly:
"Ruan Xiaonan, don't cry."
"When you cry, my heart hurts."
#In the first half of Liang Jilin's life, he could never hold on to the people he wanted to keep.
But he thought that no matter how hard it was, he had to hold on to Ruan Nan.
