The Divine One Came to Save Me

1.

When Chu You was sixteen, she was sent to live with the Ji family. She was careful and cautious, never daring to make a single mistake.

The Ji family had three sons, each handsome and distinguished. The youngest, Ji Xueshu, was a blind boy.

Rumor had it he was an illegitimate child of unknown origin, and anyone could bully him.

The day Chu You arrived at the Ji home, she saw the boy in the snow, his lips pale from the cold as he picked up, one by one, the books trampled and dirtied on the ground. Yet he was still as beautiful as a painting.

They were close in age and shared the same misfortune. She saw him as her best friend, cared for him, and kept each other warm as they got through the hardest years together.

After starting university, Chu You was finally able to fly far away.

Then, one late-spring day, circumstances forced her to return to the Ji family estate.

The Ji family wielded tremendous power, and the young men of that generation were all unhinged. Soaked by the rain, she fled the Ji estate in the middle of the night.

At the end of the corridor stood a shadowy figure. It was the pale, beautiful face from her memories. The man's long, cool fingers gently touched her cheek, tender and soothing, their tips glistening with rain.

As if she had found her savior, Chu You clung trembling to his sleeve and begged him to take her away from the Ji estate.

But when she came to again, the lights were dim and her head was groggy. He gently caressed her lips, drawing close with awkward tenderness, and murmured like he was talking in his sleep, "But I like you so much, too."

I like you so much, more than anyone / I remember your scent, the feel of your touch / The Ji family belongs to me now. Will you belong to me, too?
