My Strange Boyfriend

A collection of short stories featuring nonhuman male leads. Blind-box style, with new stories appearing now and then. See also my other story of the same type, "After the Fairy-Tale Era."

1. "Undifferentiated Merman"

On An Beilei's twentieth birthday, her father, who collects rare creatures, gives her a detached villa and a merman whose sex has yet to differentiate. From then on, the merman often watches her quietly when she isn't paying attention.

His silky hair sways gently in the water as his tail stirs the current. His dark eyes track the young woman's figure, and a secretive patch beneath his abdomen swells ever so slightly.

His differentiation had quietly completed the moment he saw her. Every signal from his body suggests one thing: he wants to have her.

2. "Secret Marriage"

Lately, Bai Ling keeps seeing a strange man. He appears at her workplace and even in her home, but whenever she blinks, he's gone. Bai Ling thinks she might be seeing a ghost.

Later, the man tells her that someone arranged a ghost marriage between them, and that she is now his wife. Bai Ling: Get lost!

He Ran was going about his ghostly existence when he suddenly gained a living wife. She's beautiful and smells wonderful, and her singing is as lovely as a songbird's. When his wife tells him to "get lost," He Ran goes: Eek!
