The Grass, the Wilderness, and the Full Moon

On the way back to school, the girl fell asleep, and the boy carried her along, walking and walking.

They kept going until a passing car honked and woke her. She stared at him in astonishment. "Why didn't you wake me up? Are you stupid? You carried me for over two hours!"

"You're not that heavy."

The girl looked at him with concern. "What would you have done if I hadn't woken up?"

He smiled faintly. "Then I would've carried you until dawn."

The boy in the story is Shen Qi, and the girl is Tong Yimo. They were childhood sweethearts who had grown up together, innocent and in love.

But their story had a bad ending.

The culprit was Zhou Wenqiu.

*

After the love of his life died, Zhou Wenqiu spent eight years living like a zombie. Just as he was preparing to accept his fate, he ran into Tong Yimo.

She looked almost exactly like his late wife, but treated him with politeness and distance, courteous yet unfamiliar.

She would normally address him respectfully as "Mr. Zhou."

But once she learned how he felt, she tested and provoked him: "I don't think love can be transferred. If it can, then it isn't love. Don't you agree, brother-in-law?"

Theme: Love between equals.
