Capturing Beauty

Xie Chi was taken home by a drunk when he was little and raised like a dog. He wasn't given shoes, had to eat leftovers, wore a padded coat made of reeds to keep warm in winter, and was always at risk of being whipped. He was treated worse than a dog. Then he met that delicate little girl. He heard she was the young lady of the main household, sent to the estate to recuperate because of her frail health. Though she was clearly afraid of him, she approached him with trembling steps. She made him shoes with her own hands and sewed him clothes. She stopped the drunk from whipping him and taking out his drunken anger on him, and taught him not to hold on to hatred, but to grow up to be a good person. She crossed through the crowd and came to him like a light, driving away the darkness over his head. Her hands trembling, she touched his mismatched eyes and told him, "Xie Chi, you are not a monster." From then on, he began to believe that he, Xie Chi, was not a monster. * Later, the royal family found him and brought him back. As the only prince with a legitimate claim to the throne, he fought on the battlefield for three years, finally fought his way into Chang'an, and defeated the rebels. The day he entered Chang'an was the day the young lady of the Song family was to be married. The gongs and drums rang out, and she wore her phoenix crown and red wedding robes. Red candles stood in pairs, and the bride and groom were together. Xie Chi thought, there was no point in being a good person after all. The day Xie Chi fought his way into Chang'an, corpses covered the city streets, and Chang'an was drenched in blood. Song Yujiao was bound and sent into the palace, where she became Xie Chi's empress.
