Lin Junying is an ordinary young man from the southern frontier, born in a swamp. He happens to be just a little lucky: he was born into the clan chief's family and is the beloved young master of the entire southern frontier. As Lin Junying grows up, he lives up to his title. His skill at making Gu is unparalleled.
After spending so long cooped up in the swamp, he wants to go out and stretch his legs.
His people tell him, "Go to Xinzheng. Quite a few of our people make a living in some palace there. You'll have someone to look after you, young master."
Lin Junying thinks it sounds like a good idea. He wants to see what the Central Plains' imperial palace looks like. But halfway there, he gets intercepted by Xinzheng's great general, Ji Wuye, and ends up as a physician under the general's command.

Unable to stroll around the palace openly, Lin Junying immediately gets lazy and starts doing absolutely nothing. He keeps at it for three years, though he does find ways to amuse himself. Two bird-brained underlings of Ji Wuye have caught his interest, and he is trying every trick he can think of to catch them.
While he is busy catching birds, Xinzheng falls into chaos. And not just any chaos. With his people caught up in it, Lin Junying has no choice but to get involved. At last, the young master, who has been slacking off for three years, gets out of bed and goes to work.
