‖ The world's best at playing sweet and innocent x the poor man who becomes a stand-in for a wily old fox
Everyone in the Bay Area Big Law world knows that Carl, a partner-level dealmaker and the best of the best, always gets paid for his work. Every scheme he casually pulls off rings like gold coins dropping into his pocket.
He did once go to great lengths for a little girl, though. She was just the daughter of a big-spending client who wasn't too bright.
But at some point, a sweet and obedient Chinese girl began following Carl around. Big eyes, black hair, head bowed as she spoke softly by his ear.
He actually bent down to listen, then let her lift a hand to push his gold-rimmed glasses back up his high nose. He gently cradled the back of her head and stroked her hair in praise.
Everyone around them was stunned. Had the old fox changed his ways? Could he really be coaxing a little white rabbit now?
The girl heard them gossiping and showed no reaction. Lips pursed, she quietly continued helping Carl arrange his cards, looking every bit like a devoted lover.
Carl thought so too. After all, she was his little rabbit, whom he had taken under his wing and raised until she was comfortable around him.
It wasn't until he saw that heartfelt will that he understood what it meant to have three burrows like a cunning rabbit, or to lose one's footing at the final moment.
It turned out his little girl had never lacked money. What she lacked was a replacement who looked enough like the person who had left her a huge inheritance.
The yellowed, brittle pages were carefully slipped back into the manila envelope. The slender, elegant fingers that had always held a pen and marked up paper clenched into a fist, then trembled as they reluctantly relaxed.

Everyone is saying that the dead Bai Yueguang is irreplaceable. This sentence may apply to readers like me but not to the heroine. After all, the second male protagonist always belongs to the reader, and the female protagonist belongs to the male protagonist. After seeing that the first person that the heroine thought of in the previous chapter became the male protagonist, I felt a little pity. After all, it is inevitable to be replaced. If you die, you will die. If you die, there will be nothing. Rather than become the dead Bai Yueguang, I would rather watch my childhood sweetheart grow old. It is truly a pity that such a man died. It's really a pity that his position in the heroine's heart is gradually replaced by another person.
Is it still updated? Can I get a refund if I don't update?

Brian wanted to be a relative and a guide in life. The brother who gave An Mo a lot of help and touched him countless times also wanted to be good to him and care about him! At most, some girls have a vague impression that their first love was Bai Yueguang.
There are some repetitive passages in this chapter, which could use some editing.
