The Unparalleled Beauty of the Seventies

Kunqu opera ingenue x tender-hearted soldier [1] On Jiang Churuo's fourteenth birthday, her mother, the only family she had, went to perform with the opera troupe and never came home. Following the instructions of her mother's sworn sister, Aunt Qiu, she went to the countryside, gave up singing opera, married into a family of poor peasants with three generations of farming behind them, and put down roots in the village to keep her mother safe. She spent her whole life hoping for news of her mother. But at the very end, all she received was a letter full of mockery. It turned out her mother had died on her fourteenth birthday, buried beneath the stage she loved most. After her mother's death, Aunt Qiu had taken her place in every way, and Aunt Qiu's daughter had taken Jiang Churuo's. It turned out that the people the two of them trusted most were the very executioners who had pushed them into the abyss! Jiang Churuo glared in fury and died with hatred in her heart. When she woke again, she was back on her fourteenth birthday. Her mother was about to leave, turning to her with a smile. "I'm performing The Two Descend the Mountain today. Wait for me to come back..." [2] Reborn, Jiang Churuo takes her mother to the countryside. This time, she won't be fooled by anyone. She works during the day and learns opera from her mother at night, undeterred by the ridicule and taunts of those around her. Seven years of obscurity finally culminate in a breathtaking moment onstage. [3] Not far from the village is a secret military training camp. At some point, the sweet, lilting voice of a young opera singer begins to drift over during the soldiers' morning and evening drills. The commander grows more irritable by the day. That voice has his best soldiers losing their focus. More importantly, its soft, delicate melody follows him into his dreams, where a young opera singer playfully waves her long sleeves at him, her eyes full of affection...
