[Detective Conan] What's Wrong with a Witch Picking Up a Child?

W and Gin first met in the basement of a church.

On their boss's orders, she and N were supposed to deal with a priest who had betrayed them. They never expected someone else to get to him first.

Looking at the blood-smeared boy in front of her, she suddenly thought that raising a child might not be such a bad idea.

"Hey, kid. Want to come with us?"

She crouched down and held out her right hand to Gin.

That was the beginning of their ill-fated bond.

Little scene:

"Hey, kid. What do you want for Christmas?"

To break the strange silence in the car, W tossed the question to the silver-haired boy in the back seat.

The boy, arms folded across his chest, coolly opened his half-closed eyes. His deep green pupils were like emeralds locked away in a treasure vault, gleaming eerily in the dark.

"Nothing."

His voice had none of the childishness expected of a ten-year-old. Its chilly tone made W feel as if the air around them had grown colder.

"Anything at all. You know, designer clothes or shoes, if you like?"

W didn't give up. She tried to keep the conversation going with a coaxing tone, but the answer she got was still the same two cold words.

"Nothing."

"Food?"

"I don't care. As long as I'm full."

"Jewelry?"

"Boring."

"Women?"

"...Don't need any."

"Then how about a cookbook? Everything you've cooked lately tastes the same." W tapped her slender index finger against her chin. She thought back to last night's meat sauce pasta, the creamy baked rice from the day before, and the cheese macaroni from the day before that. A cloying sweetness crept over her taste buds, making her shudder.

The boy didn't miss W's subtle reaction. His lips twitched, and he gritted his teeth, barely holding back his anger. "Then don't eat it."

"Aw, come on! If I can't eat little Gin's lovingly made food, I'll make a mistake on a mission!"

An "immortal" mafia enforcer x Gin. A long, slow-burn story. The first half takes place before Gin joins the Black Organization.

Updates are slow. I've posted a description of the female lead's appearance on Lofter, so feel free to check it out if you're interested.
