The apocalypse came a year ago. An unknown substance struck Earth, causing plants and animals to mutate, while a small number of humans evolved supernatural abilities.
The government established the largest base in the north. Li Xiang lived right next to the government compound, so she wasn't in much danger, though the environment was harsh and living conditions were rough. On the sixth day of the apocalypse, Li Xiang inexplicably awakened water and spatial abilities. Her water ability was extremely rare. She was useless in a fight, but the job came with decent benefits.
The first time Lu Yuanzheng saw Li Xiang, he was recruiting survivors from other cities. She watched the bedraggled people with curiosity, seeming completely out of place among everyone around her. The second time he saw her, she was condemning his brutality. He hadn't expected her to be within earshot, and his eyes widened in shock. His foul mood instantly improved. Later, she became his landlady, and he rescued her after mutant bees carried her off. Gradually, they got to know each other, then went their separate ways. When they met again, everything had changed.

Looking back on her twenty-plus years of life, Li Xiang couldn't recall ever rescuing or raising any small animals or insects, or suffering any hardships. She'd had a life full of food, drink, and fun, and couldn't have been happier. Why had the task of saving the world landed on her?
