There Are Absolutely No Gods in This World

One day, Helena, who had transmigrated, finally couldn’t hold back and told her foolish younger brother the truth: “Heh. Jesse, there are absolutely no gods in this world.” Jesse questioned her: “Sister, then why does it rain and wind blow? Why do the seasons change and day turn into night?” Helena replied without hesitation: “That’s because water vapor condenses, air moves, and the Earth revolves around the sun and rotates on its axis!” Little Jesse seemed to understand, but not quite. “I see, Sister. But...” He scratched his head and looked toward the temple, puzzled. “Then why can the elders at the temple use divine arts?” Helena smiled. “Jesse, have you ever seen divine arts with your own eyes?” Jesse shook his head. “Exactly.” Helena answered with absolute conviction. “That means they’re all frauds.” Jesse clenched his fists. “I see! I understand now, Sister!” Helena nodded in satisfaction. The god nearby, who had heard every word: “...Wait, what’s water vapor? What’s the Earth?” * Later, the god encountered Helena for the second time in the temple’s main hall, still carrying those questions. She held a spotless white staff in her hand, her golden hair glittering beneath the holy light. With wide, innocent eyes, she asked, “Elder, is it true that joining the temple comes with a monthly stipend of five gold coins?” The elder furrowed his brow. “That is true, Helena, but you must understand that joining the temple isn’t about those five gold coins.” Helena nodded eagerly. “Of course. I am steadfast in my faith in the great deity.” But the god clearly couldn’t sense the slightest trace of faith from her. “...She’s a fraud,” the god thought. * The mortal world was never supposed to surprise me so much, but then you came along.
