One day, Mei Yao was walking home as usual when, in an instant, the world changed around him.
Flowing orange-yellow light filled the surroundings, a black celestial body hung in the sky, and he was surrounded by ravenous monsters. The only thing beside him was a door that looked just like a coffin lid.
With nowhere to run, he had no choice but to pry the door open and rush inside. Who knew the damn thing really was a coffin lid!
Hoping to rise from the coffin one day, Mei Yao could only set out on the path to godhood with tears in his eyes, adopting secret identities and beginning his career as a missionary.
And so, the Lamplighter who traveled between reality and illusion carved a path home for those who strayed into the Realm of the Dead; the Executioner wielding a crimson longsword slaughtered every monster that dared invade Earth; the Governor of the Lost City welcomed those on the verge of transformation and offered them refuge; the Dreamweaver who plucked the moon from the sky fooled everyone's eyes...
They say they are all devotees of the Eternal Night.
As the source of it all, Mei Yao never expected that every one of his secret identities would eventually come to life!
They chanted his divine name and carried his will to distant lands.
"You are the sole ruler of the eternal night, the Void Moon that has never existed. You are destruction, and you are rebirth."
"In your divine kingdom, we will find eternal peace and tranquility."
