Igarashi Ao is an obscure writer who never meets a deadline. He's a writer in the broadest sense, but he's frail and weak, unable to lift anything or do any hard work. So taking sick days and missing deadlines now and then is only natural, right?
Everyone knows pigeons never have a good ending. Igarashi Ao has always known his luck is terrible.
But getting mugged while out buying groceries, being taken hostage, and accidentally stabbed to death? Isn't that too much! Did he roll a critical failure or something? He'd just paid the rent and utility bills for the month! What a waste!
Then some System picked him up and bound itself to him. To stay alive, he worked diligently as a wage slave.
There's no way a weakling like him could do missions in person. He'd just be a real-time demonstration of dying before his mission even began. Luckily, the System could provide secret identities. To create secret identities that could take a beating and fight back, Igarashi Ao had never written stories so diligently in his life.
Wait, he never gave that secret identity this setting. What are you imagining? Stop it! Are you even better at writing angst than I am?
Theme: Don't try to take the pen from an author, or you'll be the one who gets stabbed in the end.
