The flickering candlelight illuminated the hall, and the rare smile on the young general's face as he drank. His peach-blossom eyes curved like rippling springs, and his lips turned upward. He looked nothing like his usual cold self, more like a well-behaved kitten.
Qi Rui couldn't help being captivated. Every smile and frown of Mo Heng's that night was branded into his heart. Seeing this side of him, which he never showed anyone else, made Qi Rui want to draw closer. Yet he was afraid that if he did, he would disturb this fragile, elusive beauty, as fleeting as a touch.
After a long pause, Qi Rui spoke in a hoarse voice. "A moment ago, General, you asked why I invited only you to the banquet, yet made such a grand occasion of it." He paused, then continued, "I have honored guests, so I play the se and blow the sheng."
Thank you for coming into my life and saving me from the dark abyss. For the rest of my life, I ask for nothing else. Even if I have only you, that is more than enough. I could ask for no greater blessing.
I have honored guests, so I play the se and blow the sheng. From now on, I will hold a banquet every day, just for you.

Also known as: No Meeting Without a Feud. Ancient-style steampunk (my first time writing this genre, so I'm still learning. Advice welcome.)
A fictional Great Liang (that is, the Southern Liang of the Xiao clan). No historical research, so it's not rigorous (please go easy on me). HE, lots of sweetness with a little angst.
You can also check out my short-story collection, Just Writing for Fun. It includes fanfiction, HE/BE/OE, fluff, angst, all kinds of ideas and musings (whatever comes to mind).
